Chloe didn’t get a lot of days off. Her grandfather was very strict about the way she was educated and that usually meant she had a different tutor waiting for her in the library every single day. He was also very adamant on the fact she attended his meetings so when the time came for her to ascend the throne she would be prepared for anything the council could throw at her. Days like these where her schedule was empty were few and far between, which simply made her appreciate them that much more. She’d slept in late, had the kitchen prepare two full plates and insisted Taryn would have breakfast with her. They’d spend an entire night in the woods again and Chloe felt like a decent breakfast was the least she could do to repay her. She’d seen the sober meals the guard received. The blonde had refused at first of course, but Chloe had gotten used to having to nag a bit to get what she wanted with her.

Some food wasn’t going to get either of them killed, and neither was her following request a few hours later when Chloe requested Taryn would actually come inside of her room instead of standing guard in front of it. It was custom of course for her to do that, and while Chloe had never really minded it before when it had been Aryen standing guard it was unnerving her now that it was the blonde. So she’d argued and pleaded and almost settled for simply reading her book in the hallway when Taryn caved and followed her inside. Now that she was here Chloe wasn’t entirely sure what she found most fascinating to look at, the book shed been trying to finish or Taryn looking uneasy sitting on the couch. “You can relax a bit if you want..” She mused, finally making up her mind and putting the book down besides her on the bed.

That had been the reason she’d asked Taryn to come inside after all, so the girl could finally blow some steam of as well. She was watching her day and night, something that wasn’t really required of her since she had guards stationed in the hallways at night. She stood up, stretching lazily with her eyes never leaving the other girl. They were from different worlds, and Chloe had so many questions to ask her about things outside of the castle walls. With her grandfathers paranoia she wasn’t allowed outside unless it was on official visits, which rarely occurred as it was since people usually came to them. Everything she knew she learned out of books and stories she’d heard the guard mumble in passing. She walked over to her then, sinking down next to her. “What do you usually do in your free time?” She asked carefully, she didn’t want to intrude, but at the same time she didn’t think Taryn would mind her asking.

These days Taryn didn't really get days off. They weren't exactly something she wanted in this particular line of work though to be honest. She liked to relax and have fun as much as the next person, but in this line of work relaxation and fun could get someone killed. Someone who was actually starting to mean a great deal to her. Taryn knew that she wasn't supposed to let herself care about Chloe more than thinking of her as a job assignment. She'd been given this job because she'd worked hard for it. She didn't want to ruin it. Didn't want to do anything to destroy it. Destroying it, however, would mean more than just dropping something or breaking something. If she destroyed this it would mean that someone got hurt, or worse. Chloe wasn't just someone to her though. Which was part of the problem she felt herself facing. She was the princess, she was going to be queen one day. And Taryn, she was just a guard. Yes, she was her personal body guard, but that didn't mean she was allowed to get close to her. She could get close in the way that she had to be there to protect her, but that was it. She wasn't allowed to do anything else. Wasn't allowed to feel anything else.

Though no one can stop themselves from having feelings. It was a natural thing for anyone, no matter what race or species. She wasn't immune to it, though right now she was really starting to wish she was. Taryn wished that she could just shut her emotions off and do her job. She wished that she could close off her mind and focus on nothing but Chloe. In the respect that when she said that she meant focus on her in a way to protect her. Being constantly aware of her surroundings. Constantly aware of who was coming and going around them. She needed to focus on everything. Yet she found herself focussing on the way the other woman moved, how she spoke. How her lips twitched up ever so slightly before a radiant smile covered her entire face. The way she looked at her when she thought Taryn wasn't looking or paying attention. She was always paying attention. And not just because it was her job, but because she was starting to have feelings for her. And she secretly wanted Chloe to be looking at her. Wanted her to be smiling at her, smiling because of her. She wanted to hear her say her name. Because most the time, when they were around other people at least, she had to use her surname rather than her first name and she was hating how formal that was. She wanted things to be personal. And she wasn't supposed to want that at all. That could cause a great deal of problems.

She didn't get days off. Though she didn't mind. So while the princess had been having a sleep in Taryn had been standing guard outside her bedroom, like she did ever night and every morning. Which had mostly consisted of leaning against the wall and trying to keep herself awake. She couldn't remember the last time she'd gotten a full night sleep. It was definitely before she'd been assigned this job detail. She couldn't exactly keep an eye on things and sleep at the same time, now could she? Once the other woman woke up she'd started trying to talk Taryn into having breakfast with her. Which she'd thanked her for, but refused. Though that hadn't worked in the slightest because Chloe just kept insisting until she actually agreed. Sooner or later she'd found herself in the other woman's room, which was completely inappropriate. As were Taryn's thoughts as she continuously glanced over at the other woman sprawled out on her bed.

Taking a deep breath she'd let it out in an elongated sigh before staring out the window and taking in the views. Though she found herself glancing back over at the other woman. She needed to focus. Needed to do her job. Instead, she'd been talked into sitting on a couch and was staring out a window because she needed to stop staring at Chloe before she got into trouble. ”Relaxing could get you hurt.” She finally looked over at her, seeing she'd put her book down and didn't seem to be taking her eyes off her. Which was kind of intense and actually very sexy. Though she wasn't about to say that out loud because it was extremely inappropriate... And now she'd moved and was sitting right by her, which kind of made her just want to reach out and touch her. Again, that was inappropriate. ”I don't really get a lot of free time.” That wasn't a complete lie. She did get nights off, because Chloe had guards posted at her door. She just chose not to take them off. ”Sometimes I like to go out in the forest or just walk the streets outside the castle walls.” Frowning a little as she had a feeling Chloe hadn't ever ventured outside the castle walls. ”I'd spend time with friends if I had any.” She wasn't trying to earn herself some pity. She was just being honest. ”None of them ever really thought I'd get this far so none of them stuck around.”

One of the first things Chloe had been taught growing up was the importance of body language. Actions often spoke so much louder than words and so she’d been conditioned to hold herself a certain way around others. She couldn’t blink an eyelid so to speak without it possibly implying something and it was exhausting. It was another reason why she appreciated these little moments where she could just sprawl out on the bed and let her guard down. Her room had always been her sanctuary and strangely even with Taryn sitting just a few feet away from her she didn’t feel the need to keep her walls up. If anything the blonde looked far more guarded than she felt right now. She knew Taryn took her job very seriously and while Chloe had the uttermost respect for that she kinda wished the blonde would just try and relax just this once. The worst threat she could possibly think of at the moment was a paper cut from the book she’d been reading.

“When we are out there perhaps.” She spoke with a nod towards the window. “But nobody would be foolish enough to attempt to attack me in my own room, even if they tried I’m certain you’d have them on the floor before they even managed to glance at me.” She knew there were still voices who disagreed with her grandfathers decision to assign Taryn as her shadow. People judged the blonde on her looks and instantly labeled her as incapable of doing her job. Misogyny was still a very prominent thing in this castle despite the fact she was supposed to be queen in a few years time. Chloe for one didn’t doubt the blondes ability to defend her, her grandfather wouldn’t place her life in the hands of someone who was incapable of keeping her safe. Either way Chloe hoped she’d never actually need to prove herself. She sat down right next to Taryn, listening as she answered her question. She felt somewhat foolish for asking now, she should have known the girl didn’t get much time to herself now that she was assigned to watch her. Even on the few days Chloe had to herself Taryn was still expected to watch her.

“Well they were wrong.” She spoke with a smile. “You did get this far, and I don’t think they should really be considered friends if they abandoned you that easily.” She added carefully, knowing she was probably in no position to speak of friendships since she could count the few she had on a single hand. Even those very few she wasn’t certain if their loyalties lay with her or the crown on her head. Social climbers were everywhere in a place like this, some better at hiding it than others. It had made her more skeptical towards things, more doubtful towards how genuine some gestures were. “What’s it like out there?” She didn’t often get the chance to ask that question directly, and Taryn would be more than capable of answering her since she lived out there most of her life. She looked at her expectantly, very aware of how close they were sitting to each other. Taryn wearing the same leather outfit that was custom for her rank and Chloe almost wished she would wear something less fitting because it was taking her mind places it shouldn’t travel. It would be so easy to reach out right now and touch her. As inappropriate as those thoughts may be however she couldn’t really stop. Taryn was beautiful and it was difficult not to notice something like that.

Taryn wasn't the only guard that Chloe had and she was well aware that it wasn't on her to watch her round the clock, but she still made it her job to do so. She didn't want to leave her side, and that kind of scared her. It wasn't because she was the Princess and future Queen. That wasn't the reason her safety was her top priority. There was something about her that drew her in, that kept her coming back. Yes, it was her job to protect her, to keep an eye on her. Though that wasn't the reason she was doing it, to be perfectly honest. That was the reason she was doing it to begin with, because she was the future Queen and Taryn had earned this position, but now it was different. She'd gotten to know her. She'd been with her almost every hour of every day for some time now. Okay, so it hadn't been all that long but it felt like it'd been an eternity. She felt attached to her, which wasn't a good thing. It could be, in the way it'd make her more inclined to protect her. But it could also be a distraction. It could also cause problems. It wasn't exactly smiled upon that she was in such a position. It definitely wouldn't be smiled upon that she was falling for the person she was supposed to be protecting. She was paid to do it, it was just a job. Wasn't it? No, it wasn't just a job. This was more than a job to Taryn. It was Chloe's life she was protecting and that was important to her, for reasons it shouldn't have been.

Furrowing her brow at the other woman as she mentioned no one being stupid enough to attack her in her room. Okay, so that was true. And Taryn's furrowed brow was merely a futile protest, she knew she was right. She knew that she could relax a little, she just couldn't help it. To be perfectly honest she was finding it difficult to relax because of the fact that she was in Chloe's bedroom. She'd been in here before, but it hadn't been to sit and relax. It'd been to check the room was safe before Chloe came inside. Now she was here because she'd been invited inside, to sit and relax. She was sitting, but she sure wasn't relaxing. She couldn't help it, and it wasn't made any better when Chloe came to sit on the couch with her. The close proximity shouldn't have been a problem, but it was. And wasn't at the same time. She just wanted to reach out and touch her and she knew how highly inappropriate that would've been. She couldn't do that. Wouldn't do that. Though she really wanted to.

The blonde didn't get a lot of time to herself, and when she did have time off she still stuck close to Chloe. She didn't want to leave her protection up to someone else. Though she knew other's wouldn't have been given the same responsibilities if they couldn't handle it. If they weren't cut out for it they wouldn't have been there. She wasn't trying to make it seem like no one else could do the job, she just wanted to be there. All the time. She couldn't help it. She was attached. Too attached. ”Thank you.” She said with a soft smile, eyes dropping into her own leather clad lap as she listened to Chloe. She was complimenting her, right? At least, she was taking it as a compliment. Lifting her eyes she turned to look at her as she heard the question of what it was like out there. ”It's different. Nothing like it is in here.” She said with a small shrug. ”The streets are small and cramped and dirty and they smell a little. But it's not a bad smell, it's the smell of food and the earth and fresh air.” Eyes on Chloe but her mind was outside the castle walls as she described it. Smelling those scents as she described them. ”It's nice, just very different. A lot busier than in here.”

Chloe was used to always having the company of others. She’d had many men and women watching over her shoulder throughout the years. She was used to it, she should be used to it and yet whenever Taryn was near her she couldn’t seem to concentrate on anything but the blonde in question. She’d caught herself staring on multiple occasions and thankfully if Taryn had noticed she’d been discreet enough not to mention it out loud. A part of her hoped that the blonde hadn’t noticed, but nothing else had gotten past her so far, so she doubted this would have. She wondered if that was part of the reason why Taryn looked so uneasy sitting next to her right now, all tense shoulders and weary eyes. “You’re welcome.” She spoke softly in return, feeling her cheeks heat up a little as she found herself getting lost into that smile. Instantly she felt so very grateful that the blonde was looking down at her lap and not at her.

Somehow she’d regained a little of her composure by the time Taryn’s eyes did lift to look at her. The confirmation about how different the outside was to anything inside of the castle walls only made her curiosity spike. The description that followed didn’t help with that either as she tried to imagine the picture Taryn was trying to paint for her. “That doesn’t sound all that amazing.” She joked, glancing at the open window when her words fell flat because she didn’t truly believe them herself. She wanted nothing more than to go out there and see all of it for herself. “Do you miss it?” She found herself leaning in closer as she waited for her answer, her hand right next to Taryn’s and she found herself thinking that if she simply stretched her fingers they’d be touching. She wasn’t quite certain how such a simple gesture made her heart skip several beats.

And maybe that’s what jolted her back to reality, drawing in a quick breath as she stood up from the couch. “I wish i could see it.” Moving back to the bed she absentmindedly ran the tips of her fingers over the satin sheets, looking torn as silence fell. Her next request was barely a whisper, eyes pleading as she turned them back on Taryn. “Would you take me?” She knew she was asking much of the other women by making a request like that, but she couldn’t help herself. She’d always wanted to see what things were like out there, and Taryn would be the perfect guide for that. Taryn could keep her safe, if there was anything she was absolutely certain of it was that.

Being surrounded by people wasn’t exactly something Taryn was used to. Even now, that she worked and basically lived in the palace, she still wasn’t used to the amount of people that seemed to come and go every day. There were familiar faces that she saw all the time, every day in the same places doing the same thing. Which was to be expected, there happened to be a lot of people that worked and lived here, but the only one that needed to matter to Taryn was the Princess. The future queen. It was her job, her duty to take care of her. It wasn’t that she thought her incapable of taking care of herself, no it wasn’t that at all. That had nothing to do with it. She was her personal bodyguard. Chloe had a few, it was true, but Taryn took it upon herself to make sure that she was safe no matter where she went, what she was doing and no matter what other guards might have been around her. It wasn’t that she thought herself better at the job or thought the others incapable of looking after Chloe. She just couldn’t let anything happen to her. She knew she’d hate herself forever if she was to be injured. Or worse. Killed. She’d never forgive herself if such a thing happened. Never in a million years. She cared for her too much. Much more than she was actually willing to admit. She couldn’t admit it. Not only would she lose her job, but she would more than likely be shamed and ridiculed for the feelings she harboured for the young woman whom she’d sworn her life to protecting. It was complicated. So very complicated.

Her mind was pulled away from her thoughts as Chloe joked and then asked if she missed it. Lifting her slender shoulders in a shrug, not something the blonde usually did. She may have come from a common family, a family that was far from well of, but that didn’t stop her from carrying herself the way that she did now. She was a confident young woman and she held her head high and kept her posture almost perfect just about all the time. She’d taught herself to hold her body in a way that would have people believing she came from a well to do family. She wasn’t trying to lie, she was just trying to keep people from finding out the truth because she wasn’t proud of it. ”To be honest.” She paused for a moment, eyes on Chloe. ”I miss the wide open spaces past the city, out towards the villages and the forest. I don’t miss the streets.” Shoulders dropping from their shrug. ”I grew up on those streets, they’re harsh and most of the people aren’t the greatest to be around. You just got to find the good places.”

She probably should’ve known that Chloe was going to ask her to take her out there. She’d guessed Chloe hadn’t left the palace walls before, apart from what would’ve been seen as official duties. ”I….” She paused for a second. ”I don’t know if that is a wise idea.” She was all for reckless behaviour, but not when it came to Chloe. ”You could get hurt out there.” It wasn’t that she didn’t think Chloe could look after herself or handle herself. That wasn’t it at all. It was just that it was an extremely unforgiving and different world outside the castle walls. Plenty of people that would be willing to hurt or kill Chloe. She couldn’t risk that. ”I can’t.”

She listened closely as Taryn told her about how she’d always preferred the outskirts of the city, away from the streets and the people. She’d never seen anything wrong with the places she’d visited but then again she suspected that had more to do with the fact the real hardship was always hidden from her eyes. The streets she passed through were always clean and people usually greeted her with kind smiles. She could tell some were forced, but they were smiles none the less. Her grandfather was a hard man but he was always fair to his people and they respected him for that. Chloe could only hope that when the time came for her to take the throne she could live up to the legacy he left for her. To do that however she knew she had to see what things were actually like out there and maybe that was a part of the reason why she’d asked Taryn to take her out there, because Taryn would show her the real parts of the city, and Taryn would keep her safe. There was absolutely no doubt in her mind about that. Her problem however was that Taryn might not care for the fact that she was very capable of keeping her safe, because she wouldn’t want to put her in danger in the first place.

So of course she wasn’t surprised when Taryn seemed to hesitate before turning her down. The protests lay on the tip of her tongue, ready to spill out but she stopped herself and decided to take another route. “I understand.” She spoke softly, and just like that she’d pushed herself up off the couch and wandered towards her closet. Most of her clothes would reveal her status immediately, but she did have some leather outfits in the back that while still looking expensive wouldn’t instantly give away who she was. She looked back at the blonde for a second as she held the outfit, giving her a smile before walking behind the screen so she could get changed. She knew of a tunnel that would take her past most of the security, the one she used to get to the castle grounds so she could practice for the reaping. She’d only need to make her way past one or two guard points from there, it wouldn’t be easy but Chloe was determined. She walked out from behind the screen fastening the travel cloak around her neck.

“You can stay here if you’d prefer, get some sleep.” She said, genuinely just trying to be nice although she had a slight suspicion Taryn would never let her leave this room without her. Perhaps she simply wouldn’t let her leave at all, and Chloe couldn’t help but wonder if she’d be strong enough to push past her. She made her way to the door in just a few quick strides, reaching for the handle while her breathing sped up in anticipation because she didn’t want to have to fight the blonde, it was a fight she’d no doubt loose.

Taryn was honestly exhausted. She needed to sleep. Needed to rest, but she wasn't going to do that any time soon. Every now and then she needed to sleep, but that wasn't going to happen soon and she was sure Chloe knew that. Sleep was needed for absolutely everyone and Taryn wasn't any different. Though she wasn't going to do that right now. She was, however, going to do her job and take care of Chloe. She knew that the princess had plenty of other guards to take care of her. And she was replaceable. So she knew plenty of people would've been willing and able to take care of her. Bright blue eyes watched the princess cautiously as she spoke and got up from the couch and moved around the room. Averting her gaze as the other woman moved behind a screen and started to change her clothing. Wondering curiously what she was doing. Though she didn't need to wait too long to find out the answer to that.

Eyes widening as she watched her move from behind the screen in leathers and a travel cloak. Trying hard not to let her gaze go any lower than Chloe's face as she took in the princesses form. What on earth was she doing? Pushing herself to her feet as she heard her say she could stay there and sleep. Moving quickly and throwing herself between the door and Chloe. Hands held up in front of herself trying to stop her from leaving. Though she knew that she wasn't going to give up that easily. She knew her well enough to know that she wasn't going to give up. That she wasn't going to take no for an answer. ”I'm not staying here.” Pausing for a moment. ”But I can see you're not going to take no for an answer.”

Hands dropping to her sides she took a deep breath and stepped forward. ”If we're going to do this you need to hide your face.” Slowly stepping forward she cautiously reached out toward her. ”May I?” She asked slowly. Reaching out and taking hold of the hood of the other woman's cloak and pulling it up over her head to shadow her face. ”If I take you out of here you need to promise me that you'll listen to everything I say and let me keep an eye on you. Otherwise we don't go any further. Please promise me.” She knew she shouldn't be doing this. But she also knew Chloe would go with or without her. She left her no choice.

It was an odd thing to witness, seeing how Taryn’s eyes widened as she walked out from behind the screen. The blonde never really seemed taken back by anything she did and maybe Chloe felt somewhat pleased with herself for finally doing something unpredictable. She offered up her bed, knowing that Taryn likely wasn’t getting much sleep seeing how much of it she sacrificed to watch over her day and night. It wasn’t required of her to do so, there were guards posted outside her door at night after all, but Chloe had seen her standing out there instead of the guards on more than one occasion. That wasn’t even mentioning all the times Taryn was out in the woods with her practicing for the running. Her offer was genuine, but as soon as she made it she knew Taryn would never actually accept it. She braced herself as the blonde seemed to almost throw herself between her and the door, glancing down at the raised hands wondering if she’d actually grab hold of her if she tried to push past her. Something she luckily didn’t have to attempt.

It was her turn to be surprised as the hands dropped and the distance between the both of them was closed. It took her a moment to realize Taryn had asked her a question, and all she could do was nod slowly because she didn’t quite trust her own voice at the moment. She was somewhat thankful when the hood was pulled over her head, casting a shadow over her face and hopefully hiding the blush she could feel burning. “I promise….” She said softly, tugging the hood down a bit further. “You should probably change into something less noticeable as well..” She added, eyes falling to the imprint in the leather that immediately revealed her rank. Everyone knew the crest of the royal family and to see someone wearing it out on the street would probably attract at least a few curious eyes. They couldn’t really afford those when they weren’t really supposed to leave the castle. She turned back towards the large closet and pulled out another outfit. “Does this work for you?” She asked as she held it out, back towards the blonde as she tried to find another suitable travel cloak.

Taryn didn't let her thoughts transfer onto her features very often, but right now she couldn't stop it. As Chloe stepped out from behind the screen in what she was wearing and looking the way she did. She couldn't help but stare, which wasn't a good thing. She wasn't supposed to be staring. Looking at her in any other way than cautiously or protectively was not allowed. Not just because of anyone else, but because she didn't want to give away anything that may risk her life and job. Honestly she could've stared at her forever and not grown tired of what she was seeing. She looked beautiful. Blinking and pulling her attention out of her thoughts and back to reality she moved quickly. Ignoring the mention of the bed and moving to block the exit. She didn't want her to go out at all, yet she knew that she wasn't going to listen. So if she was so determined to go Taryn was going to go with her. She wasn't letting her go out alone. Taryn would get into a lot of trouble either way, but if she went with her at least she could protect her and keep an eye on her.

Stepping forward and closing the distance between them she slowly reached forward and pulled Chloe's hood up to partially hide her face. Though it wouldn't be a great help if people recognised her, which most people were bound to do. Feeling her heart jump into her throat as she took in the gorgeous sight before her. Something about being this close to Chloe made her realise exactly how gorgeous Chloe was. Something about that hood pulled up made her eyes more dazzling, more brilliant. Gorgeous. Hands still gently holding the sides of the hod she realised she was probably being weird. Having to actually shake her head a little to pull herself out of her thoughts, she needed to focus. ”I'll take you then.” She said as Chloe promised. Furrowing her brow confused before realising she meant how well known the imprint on her clothing was. Known as the royal imprint. Everyone knew it. So if they saw Taryn they'd know a royal wouldn't be far off. ”Oh. Yeah. I should.” Nodding.

As Chloe moved back to the closet she lifted her hands and pulled her hair out of the tight ponytail it was always in. running her fingers through her hair and ruffling it so that it fell down around her face and toward her shoulders. If they were going out there she needed to blend in, and she didn't know many commoners that pulled their hair back at all, or even washed it. So the fact she'd had her hair up and hadn't washed it recently, she'd blend right in. And, it'd be different. Something Chloe hadn't seen. Lifting her eyes to what Chloe had chosen for her. ”That'll work well. Thank you.” Taking it from her, one hand absent mindedly unzipping her top as she slowly moved toward the screen to get changed. Unaware Chloe probably would've seen a lot. Getting changed quickly she set her own clothing aside and moved out from behind the screen. ”Does this look better?”

Chloe wasn’t afraid of anyone outside of the castle grounds recognizing her. Most of the common people had never seen her in person and even the few that might be suspicious wouldn’t simply reach out and stop her with accusations of her being royalty, too afraid to look like a fool when Chloe laughed and thanked them for the compliment. It wasn’t like she was the only girl with green eyes and brown hair. “Thank you.” She responded with a dazzling smile when Taryn caved and said she would take her. The fact the blonde would be coming with her would make this far more enjoyable, a local to guide her around was never a bad thing and she very much enjoyed her company. It wasn’t like she’d been very subtle about that either, sparking up conversations whenever they’d walk around or requesting she’d actually stay inside of rooms with her instead of standing outside at the door.

She hated having to step back and move back towards the closet. They’d been standing so close together that kissing her would be such an easy thing to do. She would only have to lean forward a few inches, maybe the blonde would even meet her halfway but she was well aware that was simply her wishful thinking. She dug further into her closet, taking a moment but ultimately finding an outfit that wouldn’t instantly give the both of them away. It looked a lot like her own, but there weren’t any sigils that betrayed her status. She held them out behind her, still looking for a travel cloak, pulling one out right as Taryn took the outfit out of her hands. “If not I still have….” She turned around and instantly felt glad the hood was hiding her face. She’d pulled her hair loose and immediately all Chloe could think about was how she could run her hands through it as she pulled her close and kissed her. “Some.. more..” She felt her throat go dry, eyes widening a little when the blonde unzipped her top and gave her a view.

Chloe was nailed to the spot, mouth hanging open a little while her mind short circuited. “It’s.. um.. yeah.. thats..perfect.” She stuttered when she stepped out from behind the screen. She cleared her throat and turned around towards the door. “Lets go..” She quickly spoke, needing some fresh air before she’d close the distance between the both of them and just kissed the blonde right then and there. It wouldn’t take them very long to get out of the castle, Chloe knew enough short cuts and secret passages that they didn’t have to worry about being seen.

As soon as she was close to her she wished she wouldn't move. Maybe it was a bad idea to stand so close to her, it made her head spin and her heart race. She could feel the temperature rising in her entire body. Starting at her heart and spreading throughout her body like a wildfire. The way those gorgeous green eyes looked at her made her wish that they were in different positions. That Chloe wasn't the future queen and she wasn't her personal body guard. Surely that was all that this was ever going to be. She was her protector, no more. Her subject. She wasn't there to feel anything for her. She was supposed to protect her and nothing more. Though she found herself falling and feeling herself getting lost within those eyes and all she wanted to do was keep her gentle grip on the hood and pull her closer. Kiss her. Though that would definitely earn her a one way trip to the dungeon and the only way she'd leave was in a casket. A plain one, nothing fancy. Plain just like her standing. She had no right to do anything, no right to feel anything. So she moved away. She had no choice. She had to.

Releasing her hair from the tight ponytail it'd been pulled back into for what felt like forever, letting it fall freely. It felt so much better that way. Like a tension was lifted and she could somewhat relax. Though she knew the second they stepped out the door she would no longer be capable of relaxing. She'd be completely on edge. In over protective mode. Shaking her head a little to let her hair fall as it may. Chloe had never seen her like this, and she wished she could see her face right now. The way she stammered over her words had the blonde thinking that maybe she'd surprised her. In a good way. She hoped. Taking the clothing and unzipping the tight leather that clung to her chest instinctively before remembering she wasn't alone. Whenever she got changed she was alone, so she didn't think to wait until she was behind the screen. ”Oh... sorry.” Pressing a hand over her breasts and feeling the heat rise rapidly in her cheeks. She knew she was blushing.

Internally kicking herself for doing that she quickly got changed, setting her uniform aside. All insignia gone. Glancing down at herself she grabbed a knife and refastened it to her leg and her sword back around her waist. She wasn't going anywhere without them. And they didn't have any royal insignia, they were her own so no one would think her linked to the royals. Wealthy, maybe. But nothing more. ”Thank you.” She smiled as she took the cloak and pulled it on, lifting the hood over her head. Purely so no one in the castle would recognise her. As soon as they were outside she'd probably pull it down as no one out there would recognise her. She blended in well. Following her, one hand instinctively on her sword beneath the cloak. No one would see it unless they knew what to look for. This better be worth it...

Watching as Taryn pulled her hair free and allowed it to cascade down her back was one thing, but seeing her just casually take her top off was another. She knew she should have turned away and given her some privacy but her mind kind of just went black and her jaw dropped to the floor. “That’s…” She cleared her throat and finally averted her eyes, not that it really helped much because that image would forever be seared into her brain. It was probably the first and the only view she’d ever get and while Chloe knew she should probably feel guilty for not giving her some privacy, all she really felt was sad she at that thought. Once again she felt glad for the hood hiding her face and the bright red blush she was currently sporting. If she hadn’t averted her gaze she might have even noticed the way that Taryn had been blushing, but she’d turned her back, eyes trained on the door as she waited for an actual okay to turn around again. She hugged the cloak to her stomach, humming a random tune for a moment until Taryn emerged from behind the screen. When she finally did it felt almost odd to see her not wear the uniform that had been given to her.

Waiting until Taryn pulled up the hood to cover her face Chloe quickly opened the door and in a few quick strides moved towards a wall. “There’s a passage here..” She mumbled, pushing one of the bricks and watching as a small part of the wall moved. It would be the only way for them to get out of the castle completely unnoticed, since guards still patrolled most of the hallways at this time of day. She took hold of the blondes hand and pulled her inside, almost blindly pushing yet another brick when they entered and sliding the wall back in place. It was pitch black, but Chloe had walked these hallways often, her father had shown them all to her when she was a child. “I’ll tell you if you need to be careful of anything.” She said, looking back to where she thought Taryns face was, squeezing her hand in hers to reassure her. They’d been practicing in the woods blindfolded for some time now, and while that was simply counting steps, Chloe figured it was similar enough to compare anyway. The walk wasn’t too bad, she suspected it probably took a bit longer because she couldn’t quite focus on anything besides the fact she was still holding the blondes hand. “We’re nearing the end..” She said suddenly, having closed her eyes since there was no point in keeping them open. “This tunnel has exits all over the place.. We’re taking the one that takes us closest to the outside gates..” Her free hand reached the wall for a second and moments later fresh air greeted them. "So tell me... What do I need to watch out for out there?"

The princess had only ever seen her with her hair pulled into her usual tight high ponytail. So seeing it pulled out and let to cascade freely down around her face and shoulders would've been surprising. Taryn rarely wore her hair out when she was around anyone, it didn't look overly professional and it, quite frankly, got in the way when she needed to move quickly. Sometimes she wondered if it wouldn't just be easier if she cut all her hair off. Though, to be honest she didn't think it would've suited her at all to be honest. Though the fact she'd loosened her hair and let it cascade freely didn't seem to mean anything compared to the fact that she'd unzipped her shirt without even thinking about it. She had no sense of privacy, she always just got changed in the middle of her room. No screens needed. Honestly, her room wasn't even anywhere near as big as Chloe's. It was basically the size of her bed and a tiny amount of space to move around it and that was it. So she didn't even think about moving behind the screen before getting changed. Apologising quickly before moving and getting changed. Changing and pulling the hood of the cloak up over her head and moving out from behind the screen and looking at her. Feeling instantly comfortable in what she was wearing. It was a lot closer to her usual attire rather than the uniform. A lot more expensive looking. But similar and they fit perfectly to be honest.

Following her out of the room, instinctively looking up and down each side of the hall as she waited behind Chloe. Eyes on the wall, widening as she saw it move. She'd seen a lot of things in her life, but a wall opening up and revealing a hidden passage. Stepping into the passageway behind her she paused as the passage went pitch black and they were thrown into darkness. Feeling her take hold of her hand Taryn's eyes went wide and she couldn't help but gasp in surprise. ”Okay.” Smiling in the darkness as she felt Chloe squeeze her hand and start to lead the way through the passageway. Practising in the woods for the gauntlet had somewhat prepared her for the darkness, so she just closed her eyes and followed the other woman. It was pitch black, so closing her eyes wasn't any different really. Nodding in the silence though she knew Chloe couldn't see her. ”We need to keep an eye out for guards. They'll be doing patrols all through the city so we need to avoid them. And try not to draw too much attention to ourselves.” Pausing for a second. ”And don't touch anything.”

Secret passages like this one were hidden throughout the entire castle, once meant to give its inhabitants a quick route of escape in case of emergency. Luckily enough they had been mostly spared from such events and as centuries passed their existence was mostly forgotten. The only reason Chloe knew about them was because her father had shown most of them to her when she was still a child, before tragedy had taken him away from her. Back then it had been their little secret, and when he had passed she’d chosen to keep it her secret, that was until this very moment. She hadn’t hesitated for a second moving towards the wall and sharing something that had been just hers for all those years. The way her eyes widened made her smile and all she could think was why she’d waited this long to show her this, because they were obviously in a hurry right now and Chloe lived for those rare occasions where she could take the other woman by surprise. Then again perhaps she was getting better at it because standing so close to one another, the little gasp from Taryn when she took her hand didn’t escape her either.

For a moment she was grateful they were surrounded by nothing but darkness so she couldn’t see the way she was smiling like an idiot as she guided them through the hallway. It wasn’t a long walk much to Chloe’s regret and she’d be lying if she said she didn’t consider taking a longer route just so she could hold on to Taryn’s hand a little while longer. There was a hint of sadness in her voice as she admitted they were nearing the exit they were going to take, and she almost wished she didn’t have to raise her hand to open the wall for them. Light instantly flooded in from outside and Chloe stepped out first, taking a deep breath before looking back at the blonde and listening as she explained what they’d need to look out for. She nodded her head at the mention of the guards, although she doubted many of them would recognize her, most of the common guards had never seen her in person, so they’d be as clueless as anyone else out there.

Taryn’s next request however had her raise an eyebrow, laughter making its way passed her lips. “Not touching anything.” She repeated clearly amused by the request. “Perhaps I should hold onto your hand then.” She added, able to actually look down at it now that they’d stepped out of the darkness and into the small cave that would take them out into the woods. Perhaps if she’d been a bit more bold she might have done just that, held onto Taryn’s hand for the remainder of the day but she’d likely die of a heart attack before the sun went down. She stepped forward, letting go of it somewhat reluctantly and pointed in front of her. “The main road should be that way… It’s not that bad a walk?” It came out as more of a question than a statement, because she’d only ever crossed the distance by horse or carriage and it gave her somewhat of a misguided perception. She let Taryn take the lead of course, pulling the hood a bit further over her head and trying to seem calmer than she felt. “Are you nervous?” She asked suddenly as they walked. The edges of the city were coming into view and Chloe had been waiting for this moment for years, but Taryn was risking her position and much more if someone caught them out there. Her grandfather would brand her guilty even if the entire thing was Chloe’s idea and his punishment would not be a light one.

Taryn had heard of the secret passages but had never actually seen one let alone walked down one in an attempt of leaving the castle. This was bad. This was very bad. She was going to suffer so badly because of this and she knew it. Yet, part of her was somewhat thrilled at the fact that Chloe was the one suggesting this. That she was somewhat leading her down the path not taken. So to speak at least. Taryn wasn't usually one for breaking the rules, not any more at least. Once upon a time that was all she ever did. Growing up on the streets had taught her a thing or two, but she was trying her best to move past that. To not be defined by it. So having Chloe pleading for her to show her outside the castle walls should have been easier to deny. Though deep down she would admit (only to herself) that Chloe could convince her to do absolutely anything. The princess had a hold on her like no other and there was no denying. To the untrained eye it'd just seem like Taryn was doing what the princess wanted to save displeasure and risking her career and possibly her life for a stupid run around the city. But to those who knew her they'd see right through that and see she was falling for her and that's why she was doing this. Thankfully for Taryn, the list of people who knew her was non-existent.

Frowning in the darkness as her hand was released far earlier than she would've liked. Though she knew they couldn't just stay there forever. No matter how she would've preferred that. Taking a deep breath as light flooded down on them, a hand instinctively grabbing her sword. Though releasing it quickly as she realised that'd be far too suspicious out in the open streets. Sure people had swords, but not many of the people they'd be around could afford anything like that. So showing she had one would possibly be enough to reveal the fact she wasn't supposed to be there. That they weren't supposed to be there. Stepping out of the passageway behind Chloe and moving to quickly close it so no one would be able to sneak into the castle. Eyes darting around to take in their surroundings. Telling Chloe what they needed to watch out for. They were in the woods but she'd been trained to expect anything. Be ready for anything. Who knew who was waiting out in the woods. There were shady people around these parts and she was just trying to be careful.

Raising her eyebrows and holding up her hands in a clear way of saying “what” at Chloe's repeating of her no touching anything rule. Yes it was a lot to ask, but it was for her own good. Though it probably was ridiculous to say it because Chloe would probably now touch EVERYTHING. ”Well if you want to I wouldn't say no.” To her holding her hand she meant. ”No. It's not a bad walk at all.” Smiling lightly at her before taking the lead. Making their way through the woods and toward the town Chloe seemed so invested in exploring. Heart racing. Eyes darting around every few seconds to keep an eye on their surroundings as diligently as possible. ”A little.” That was a lie, she was extremely nervous. Which was probably obvious as her hand rested on her sword as they walked. ”I could get in a lot of trouble for this.” That, again, was an understatement. ”The king... Your grandfather won't be happy if he finds out about this.” She could be killed for this.

Chloe stayed close to Taryn as they made their way out of the dark cave into a small clearing overgrown filled with wildflowers. It was beautiful and on any other occasion she might have tried to convince the blonde to kick back and relax a little with her, but her mind was being preoccupied by something else and nothing could sidetrack her from that. Her laughter filled the air as she repeated Taryn’s request and it only grew louder as the blonde held her hands up with raised eyebrows. “I’ll try to be good.” She mused, a playful smile on her face that instantly gave away her excitement, and the fact she probably wouldn’t be. “To be fair, you never do.” She reached down, picking a flower and looking at it for a second before glancing back up at Taryn who had taken the lead and was now making her way towards the trees. “Hold up.” She moved over towards her in a few quick strides till she was standing directly in front of her. The flower still in her hand she reached up and slid it into her hair, clearly happy with the result when she moved a step back a moment later. “Perfect.”

And just like that she fell back a step again, letting Taryn lead her through the trees towards what she assumed was the village. The walk wasn’t too bad, like Taryn had promised and between nervous heartbeats Chloe worked up the courage to ask Taryn if she was nervous. The way she was so obviously clutching her sword underneath her cape kind of answered the question for her but she still wanted to hear her say it. “We won’t be caught.” She almost reached for the blonde’s hand again, even if just to reassure her they’d be okay. “He is a stubborn old man..” She added carefully, not wanting to talk disrespectfully about him but still disapproving of the steel hand he used to rule his kingdom, the steel hand he’d been trying to instill in her. The trees were starting to thin out as structures took their place, barns and stables and walls but most importantly people, they were no longer walking down the small path alone.

The streets were far more narrow and dirty than she remembered them to be, but Chloe barely noticed the mud as she glanced up at the buildings and tried to take everything in. ”hey watch were you’re going!” She nearly jumped out of her skin as something, or rather someone collided with her, causing her to stumble back and it it hadn’t been for the fact Taryn had been within reach she probably would have fallen over. So there she stood, eyes wide with surprise and gripping Taryn’s arm while she gaped at this man who she’d just bumped into, who looked like he wouldn’t mind knocking her over the head. She didn’t think she’d ever had anyone talk to her that way. “Sorry?” She looked a bit lost, but it seemed to be enough for the guy as he stepped around her mumbling something about teenagers.

This was an absolutely stupid thing to be doing and Taryn knew it. It was something that could risk getting both of them killed. Something that would most definitely cost her not only her job, but her life if anyone caught them. It was reckless and dangerous and she should have known better. Yet, at the same time, she was liking seeing Chloe like this. She couldn't remember the last time she'd actually seen her this carefree. To be honest, she didn't think she'd ever seen the Princess this carefree before at all. Though it was highly likely the risks outweighed the reward in this scenario, which was why she had her guard up. She was supposed to though, it was her job and it was what she'd been trained to do. Prepared for the worst. She was supposed to protect her and she couldn't very well do that if she wasn't prepared.

Her eyes moved to Chloe upon being told to hold up. Stopping, hand on her sword, expecting something to be coming at them. Though she was happily surprised as Chloe bent to pick something up then moved toward her quickly. Smiling as the other woman gently slipped a flower into her hair. Unable to do anything but blush she dropped her gaze for a second before looking back up at her. ”Thank you.” For the flower she meant. She couldn't stop blushing. And just like that they were off again. Walking along together toward their destination. Eyes darting around here, there and everywhere as they walked. Keeping an eye out for anything out of the ordinary. Anything or anyone that meant harm. Taking a deep breath and telling her that she was nervous, and why. This was a huge risk that she was taking, coming along with her out here. But she couldn't just let her come alone. That would've been worse. Maybe. Both scenarios were bad.

No longer on the path alone made her want to reach for Chloe's hand. Hold onto her so that she knew exactly where she was. Knew exactly how far away she was if she had to do anything. Then someone crashed into Chloe and all Taryn could think was they'd been caught. Pushing her way to Chloe's other side so she was between her and the man who'd collided with her she took Chloe's hand and looked at the man. ”Sorry, won't happen again.” Apologising though she wanted to rip his throat out. Lacing her fingers with Chloe's she lifted her other hand and pushed the hood off her head, flashing the man a charming smile as he walked off mumbling. Running a hand through her hair before letting it drop to her side, forgetting that she was holding Chloe's hand for a mere second. Cheeks turning a deep shade of red as she looked at her. ”I... um... sorry.”

Seeing the way Taryn blushed as she gently slipped the flower into her hair might have just been the cutest thing Chloe ever witnessed. It was a side of the blonde she didn’t get to see often and her gaze might have lingered a bit longer than necessary in an attempt to memorize it all. “It suits you.” Chloe responded with a tilt of her head and a smile on her lips before moving forward once again. While her own eyes were still mostly on Taryn, she could see the way her fingers curled around the hilt of her sword, or the tense way she moved, like she was ready to jump at any threat that might present itself. Chloe knew that if anyone tried they’d hit the floor before they were even within arms reach of her. She’d seen the blonde practice from time to time, watched as she took on the other guards and flattened them easily. She would keep her safe of whatever was out here.

If maybe she hadn’t been paying such close attention to Taryn instead of her surroundings she might have seen the man walking in her direction, bumping into her with enough force that she stumbled back. Usually when that happened people would be panicking or fussing over her to make sure she was okay. This guy however looked like he wouldn’t mind giving her another push so she would in fact be down on the ground. She apologized with wide eyes, relief washing over her when Taryn stepped in front of her and took her hand. She laced their fingers and everything and no matter how intimidating the man might have been Chloe’s attention was pulled down to it. Her surroundings were kind of forgotten for a moment until she heard Taryn speak again, apologize again. “Huh?” She looked up to see her cheeks burning an even brighter shade of red than before and smiled the biggest smile she could manage. “My hero.” She answered with a squeeze of her hand, not having any intention of letting it go now.

“This place is so…” She glanced around again at the people passing them, going about their day without a clue who was standing in their midst. “It’s so alive.” She finished and with a laugh she continued walking again, pulling Taryn with her and moving out of the small side street and into one of the main squares she recalled visiting before. When she came here however the place was so much tidier. There had been flowers and decorations on the buildings and the street lights and the cobblestones had looked like someone had just scrubbed them for a few hours. Right now however the space was filled with tiny stalls, all showing off their wares and after just a moment of taking it all in Chloe was moving forward again, taking in all the different smells. “Did you used to come here?” She asked the blonde next to her, having stopped next to a stall selling all these different kinds of bread. There was this little boy standing next to them, wide eyes staring up at the stall and Chloe reached for one of the bigger breads almost instinctively, holding it out for the boy who grabbed it instantly and ran of without a word. ”Lady what do you think you’re doing!” The yelling was closer to her than she’d expected and if that didn’t surprise her the way her wrist was grabbed certainly did. “Ow!” She knew that was going to leave a bruise. “He looked like he was starving.” She protested, wincing away when a hand was raised at her.

Feeling her cheeks turn a deep shade of red she kind of wished the forest floor would open up and swallow her whole and never spit her out. Alas, that didn't happen. Though deep down she didn't want that to happen. She liked the way Chloe seemed to be paying such close attention to her. It made her heart race, even made it feel like it may have skipped a beat or two. She couldn't remember the last time she'd felt such a rush of nerves and adrenaline all at the same time caused by the actions of a single person. Yet here she was, wishing this moment would last forever, yet knowing that it couldn't. Sooner or later they were going to have to head back to the castle. Soon enough they were going to have to venture back behind those walls. It would happen all too soon, if you asked her. She wished it didn't have to happen at all, but she knew it had to. They couldn't stay out here forever. Though she wished they could. ”Thank you.” Was all she could say as she blushed a deep, dark shade of red. Taking a deep breath and continuing on along their path toward their destination. Though she was still hesitant and nervous. This could go so badly.

And they didn't seem to be off to the best start. A man bumped into Chloe and completely blamed it on her. Without any thought Taryn moved between the two and took Chloe's hand and apologised to the man. Once he was gone she glanced down at their hands and then apologised for taking her hand. That was completely uncalled for and inappropriate, right? Her cheeks had turned red again and she was focussing on the woman walking beside her rather than their surroundings. She hadn't even noticed Chloe talking about the place. She'd been too busy thinking about how she'd just been holding her hand. Which was exactly why she hadn't noticed the little boy nor Chloe grabbing the bread and handing it to him until it was too late. A hand grabbed Chloe's wrist and the man on the end of it didn't look happy in the slightest. Which was completely understandable. Her eyes moved along the man's body to his other hand which was grasping a knife so tightly his knuckles seemed to be turning a sickly shade of white. She had to think quick otherwise this was going to end extremely badly. In her haste to get changed she'd left all her money behind. Biting the inside of her lip before suddenly realising she did have money. Just not in a coin purse or anywhere it should have been.

”There's no need for that. We're going to pay you for the bread.” She said placing a hand over the man's as it gripped Chloe's wrist. ”Now if you'll kindly take your hand off her I've got the money here.” Taking a deep breath and wishing she hadn't hidden any money where it actually was. Lifting her free hand she leaned forward a little and pulled a coin from down the front of her top, giving the man a view of her chest, knowing full well she didn't have enough money but also knowing what pigs men were and that he'd appreciate that more than money. Flicking the coin at him and watching as he let go of Chloe's wrist and was practically frothing at the mouth because of what he'd just seen. He hadn't even seen that much. Turning to Chloe quickly. ”Come on. Time to move on.” Wrapping an arm around her shoulders and leading her away. ”Quickly before he realises I short changed him.”
