as per bodhi’s instructions, alicia was decked out in her purple rainboots and her waterproof jacket. her hood was up, owing to the fact that it had started to rain again. the snow that had been on the ground had all but disappeared by then and was now replaced by growing patches of mud. allie grabbed on to the fence as she slid for the hundredth time.

whilst alicia was busying herself with feeding the pigs, and probably getting terribly muddy, bodhi was just finishing up mucking out the last of the horse stable. he had managed to calm all four of his horses down enough so that they wouldn't kick him, or headbutt him whilst he was cleaning their muck. but there was a storm brewing in the air, he could feel it. that meant that he also needed to make sure that everything was shut properly, and once he'd finished with the horses, he skipped out the back and went to check on the chickens quickly. making sure they were secure, he headed back into the stables and gave them all a carrot and an apple each. despite the rain, he could hear footsteps on the path - the squelchy kind that indicated a lot of mud, and smiled. for some reason alicia was terrified of horses, and he had made it his sacred duty (and challenge) to get her to, at the very least, pet one of his horses. tonight however, was not the night to do that, due to the storm. he was busy cleaning off the hoof of his mother's horse when lightning lit up the sky. that was fine. nothing happened, it was just what came after that usually caused a shit storm of problems. when the thunder came rolling in, it didn't sound as far away as it usually did - it sounded closer. "shit." he mumbled, going to the front of the stable and opening the bottom part of the door. he poked his head out, looking at alicia. "get inside, it's storming up. i'll be with you in a minute." no sooner had he finished his sentence did another burst of lightning light up the sky, followed closely by the roll of thunder. his horse got spooked, and as he turned to try and calm her, she kicked him in the stomach. bodhi rolled out of the stable and kicked the door shut, holding himself around his torso. "ah fuck..." he mumbled, getting himself to his feet and locking the door.

the lightning filled the sky, casting the entirety of bodhi’s farm in a split second glow. when she was younger, her father had taught her that the way to find out how far away a storm was, was to count the seconds between the flash of lightning and the sound of thunder. then, divide that number by five. allie barely managed to count three mississippis before she heard the crack of thunder. less than a mile away. it was then that bo popped his head out from the bottom of one of the stalls, telling her to get inside. she was about to put up a fight - tell him that he was going to have to drag her in there if he wanted her in the same vicinity as the restless horses. their unease, which probably would have made anyone else cautious, sat even worse with allie and her self-proclaimed horse phobia. but just as she was about to open her mouth to protest, another flash of lightning - the thunder now less than two mississippis behind, allie caught sight of a hoof connecting with bo’s stomach. the ungodly sound that came from her mouth was drowned out by yet another crack of thunder.

there was a sort of bone crunching sound as the hoof of his mother's horse connected with his ribcage. he felt a horrible pain, like something snapping inside of him, and the breath was knocked out of him. bodhi didn't want to alicia to see that he was hurt, however, so scrambled to his feet as fast as his sudden injury would allow. he felt a hand on his upper arm, and another around him. turning his head to the side, he looked into the eyes of the woman he'd invited over and.... smiled. it was just a soft smile, mind, barely even noticeable in the dark -- until a flash of lightning washed over the farm again. "i'm good.." he told her, a little bit breathless. bodhi held his side with one hand, then slowly led alicia towards his own farm house. "take your boots off." the farmer told her, slipping out of his own boots before he stepped into his home. he released himself from her grip, but only to grab a couple of beers from the fridge and the bag of marshmallows from the side. bodhi moved slowly and deliberately, trying not to show how much pain he was in. it wasn't the first time he'd been kicked by a horse, and it probably wouldn't be the last time either. you'd think that he would learn a lesson about not going into a confined space with a horse when there was a thunderstorm going on outside. but no. this is bodhi.

alicia hadn’t missed the smile (thanks to the sudden bit of lightning). or the fact that, despite her concern, she felt her own lips curve upwards. she ducked her head, turning her face away from him, and allowed herself to be led to bodhi’s farmhouse. in moments, her boots and jacket were off and she was back to watching him like a hawk as he made his way around the kitchen. the smile, which had been brief, was now replaced by a frown. allie still didn’t know all there was to know about bodhi - there would be time for that yet - but she knew enough to recognize when he wasn’t walking around like he usually did. he’d always had a bit of a slow swagger to him, but now? it looked like he was making his way through a vat of molasses. frankly, she thought his “i’m good” was a load of bullshit.

as the idiot grabbed a couple of beers from the fridge, and the marshmallows from the side, he really felt the pain begin to start. back outside, he had been far too occupied with the horse and trying to shut the door, to properly feel the pain. and now that there was nothing else in his mind, it was getting harder and harder for him to ignore it. but he was going to do his damn well best at it! bodhi didn't like to make a fuss, and he especially didn't like going to hospitals to see doctors. his motto in life was usually something along the lines of: 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it.' and he was sure that he hadn't broken any of his ribs. but alicia wanted to see. she wanted to look, and there was genuine concern on her face, and in his tone of voice. he sighed quietly and popped open the beers. bodhi set about walking to the living room area, setting the beers and bag on the messy coffee table. the farmer boy looked up at alicia. "you can look." he grumbled, slowly setting himself down. bodhi tried not to groan in pain, but he was having a hard job doing so without alicia hearing. "it's cute that you're so concerned about me though." he told her, in true asshole style.

alicia raised an eyebrow. she hadn't predicted that he would give in that easily, half-expecting to go back and forth with the farmer until he got tired and relented. but, hey, she wasn’t about to look a gift horse in the mouth. watching bodhi try and sit down was a trial in and of itself. he was trying so hard not to look like he was in pain, but the resulting facial expressions only made it more obvious. and, clearly, she wasn’t doing a great job of disguising her own emotions. allie rolled her eyes at his comment.

"yeah, right." bodhi scoffed lightly, looking down at himself as he was sat down on the couch. he was definitely sure that alicia was worried about what had just happened. but he could tell that she was trying to pass it off like it was nothing. he was doing the exact same thing, after all. now, sitting down was a little bit difficult for him, but he managed to keep a straight face. bodhi was well aware of the pain that was beginning to stir in his gut. it wasn't the first time that had been kicked in the stomach by a horse, and he doubted that it was going to be the last time, either. his only regret was that alicia had been there to witness it, and was now giving him grief about it. "oh man.. i was kicked by a horse?!" his tone was sarcastic, as though he were mocking her, almost. bodhi rolled his eyes slightly and leaned back into the cushions of his couch a bit more and held onto the hem of his shirt. the cowboy looked over at alicia with a look that almost dared her to try and get that shirt of his up so that she could take a look at the damage that had been done. he was sure that there was going to be plenty of bruising, maybe something was broken. but he was going to give in so easily.

alicia could have hit him for that bit of sarcasm. we weren’t talking assault here, just a smack on his knee - not enough to hurt him, but enough to show that he was getting under her skin. in more ways than just one, if she were willing to admit that to anyone. instead, she settled for rolling her eyes right back at him.
@bodhi iker i hope you're feeling better

"i can talk if i want." he huffed at her, holding tightly onto the hem of his shirt. he could have let allie look at his injuries, but he had decided on being difficult instead. it wasn't that hard of a feat for him to do. bodhi already scored a couple of points on the 'making allie annoyed' scale. now he was just about two points away from hitting the jackpot. if only allie wasn't so damn pretty looking at him with a small angry face. bodhi stuck his bottom lip out at allie, holding his shirt a little bit tighter. though he wasn't sure that he minded it when allie said that she was going to take his shirt off for him. he grinned slightly, looking up at her. "don't think for one second that i wouldn't let you." he raised his eyebrow, hoping that she caught onto his meaning. if she wanted to take his shirt off herself, then he definitely wasn't going to stop her. why would he? "it's probably just nothing." he told her, releasing the hem a bit. "likely just a bunch of bruises, that's what it's usually like anyway." bodhi fully released the hem, holding his hands up and in front of him. slowly, he raised his hands above his head, wincing at the pulling of muscles and the pain that came with it.
@alicia harlow i started to feel more like a human being, so that's good!

the annoyance seemed to ebb as bodhi huffed. allie went so far as to bite her lip to keep from smiling. because, as much as bodhi appeared to enjoy getting under allie’s skin, she was no angel herself and liked returning the favor as much as possible. alicia couldn’t tell you why exactly. maybe it was because of the look he’d give her, the way his jaw would set. and the way that her heart would clench in response. this was new to her as she’d never made a habit out of making simon angry - quite the opposite, really, considering how guilty she’d feel afterwards. but bodhi was able to handle himself - and her - with ease. and there was a sense of relief that came along with it. allie didn’t miss his meaning nor the grin that had found its way onto his lips. she held onto his gaze, a small smile appearing that she wasn’t able to hide. her heartbeat quickening in response.
@bodhi iker ahh good!! how's work going?!

"not in any pain." he told her, lying through his teeth. there was a whole lot of pain going on in his chest area, but he wasn't going to willingly admit that to alicia, not when he could have a little bit of fun with her first. it wasn't the first time that he'd been kicked by a horse, and he had admitted that to her -- and saw the look on her face when he did -- and alicia didn't seem to like that very much, he could tell that by that look. but he just smiled at her and shrugged it off, as it were. when he finally let go of his shirt and raised his arms above his head, it could have been considered a lazy move, but really it was because of the pain. he watched as alicia gripped the hem of his shirt and lifted it up over his torso and then over his arms. he caught her staring at him once it was off, and his lips curled up into a very faint smirk. of course she would be staring. he was very well built, and asides from the bruising, he looked after himself very well. he was strong and muscularly built, and that was what she was staring at, he could tell. "see something you like?" he asked, grinning at her. "you can look a bit closer if you want." bodhi wasn't going to stop her from looking, not when he was full on display, but it didn't mean that he couldn't have any fun with it. though there was something that he wanted to do, and he didn't want to ask her permission to do it. bodhi just needed to lean across... so he did, and then... well, he just kissed her, because why the hell not? he'd kind of been wanting to do that for a while.
@alicia harlow ugh... don't get me started
